OSDD is a CSIR-led global initiative with a vision to provide affordable healthcare to the developing world by providing a global platform where the best minds can collaborate & collectively endeavor to solve the complex problems associated with discovering novel therapies for neglected tropical diseases like Malaria, Tuberculosis, Leshmaniasis, etc. It is a concept to collaboratively aggregate the biological and genetic information available to scientists in order to use it to hasten the discovery of drugs. This will provide a unique opportunity for scientists, doctors, technocrats, students and others with diverse expertise to work for a common cause.

Open Invitation for submitting Drug Targets

This is an Open Invitation for researchers who are working to identify potent drug targets in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. If someone is interested in taking their drug targets forward in OSDD, they may post their project online. The format for posting these targets as project is available in the Open Project Space on http://sysborgtb.osdd.net. Once the projects are posted online they will be open for review by the OSDD Community and members of the Science Coordination Committee. The Project Investigators of the projects receiving positive comments will be invited for presentation. The presentation should comprise of the following four aspects- (1) Significance of the target(s) (2) Information on its structure (3) List of inhibitor(s) known or predicted (4) Information and detail of the assay, if available or developed

The Committee based on the inputs from the OSDD Community will shortlist targets that will be taken forward in OSDD.

For information please contact: info@osdd.net with ‘OSDD Drug Targets’ in the subject line.

OSDD has crossed 2000 registered users yesterday night and today (November 24, 2009) it stands at 2011. The pace of increase in the number of registered users reflects the confidence this initiative has generated. This has come about by the support of persons like you. Please accept the greetings from Prof. S K Brahmachari, the Chief Mentor, OSDD. OSDD has just completed an year since its launch in September 2008, the community has several credits to be proud of including open peer review, open funding review, large number of real time data on open labnotebook. The next big leap planned is to completely re-annotate the MTb genome for which OSDD has launched ‘Connect to Decode’ 2010 (c2d.osdd.net). The PIs wish list was about 150 participants to join, but within a week, they have about 450 participants. That is the strength of collaboration on OSDD! The annotation will start in December, 2009.

Invitation call for assay and screen development

OSDD has short listed certain targets of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In order to pursue further in the line of drug discovery, these target proteins will have to be expressed and biochemical assays are to be developed. Subsequently these assays will have to be converted in to screens for identifying inhibitors towards Lead identification. OSDD proposes to take this forward in a public private partnership mode. The targets short listed are available on the website www.osdd.net. Interested parties may send details of their experience and profile such as core strength in developing assays. Also kindly mention any services you might have provided to a pharmaceutical company along these lines. Kindly send your prime case examples. You may also like to nominate a contact person who may be required to make a presentation before a team of scientists. Kindly send your response by October 31, 2009. Kindly send your response to zt@csir.res.in; zthomas@osdd.org

Working with the SysBorg System
SysBorg works on Twiki Structured wiki. You may need to acquaint yourselves with the system and we highly recommend you take the Tutorial The SysBorg system assigns roles and responsibilities based on the different TWikiGroups. To start with all members are BlueGroup members and the highest role that can be attained is the PlatinumGroup. Roles would be assigned based on a unique micro-attribution sytem based on contributions to the SysBorg system.
